Abstract

Cold-formed thin-walled steel columns are commonly provided with holes as bearing members to accommodate auxiliaty living facilities crossing in the low-rise lightweight steel residence structure.Study on the distortional buckling stability of cold-formed thin-walled steel members have widely been implemented in recent years by some researchers. The elastic distortional buckling stress calculation method for open-hole column is the key issues in stability problem of cold-formed thin-walled steel structural member. The design method of elastic distortional buckling combined with finite strip method and finite element method was proposed, which contained finite strip method based on modifying whole cross-section thickness and calculation formula in this study. It is shown that the proposed methods can be used for design specification.
