Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between the invasion of tumor cells and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2 and MMP-9.Method Expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was examined by using SP immunohistochemical technique. Results The expression of both MMP-2 and MMP-9 was weaker in benign ovarian tumors, while their expression was much higher in malignant ones. The difference was significant(P0.01).The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in ovarian tumors tended to increase along with the decrease of differentiation of malignant tumor cells. The strong positive rate of MMP-2 in poorly differentiated ovarian tumors was higher than that in moderately and highly differentiated ones(P0.05).Conclusions The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 is related to the invasion and malignant degree of ovarian tumors.MMP-2 and MMP-9 play a crucial role in the early stages of invasion and metastases of ovarian tumors.
