Abstract

Objective To study the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) in epithelial carcinoma of the ovary and to explore their relation to invasion, metastasis and prognosis. Methods The expression of MMP-2,MMP-9 in 47 epithelial ovarian carcinomas was investigated by the immunohistochemical method. Results There were no significant differences in the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 between different histologi-cal types of ovarian carcinomas, but significant difference in MMP-2, MMP-9 expression was found between different clinical stages, primary and relapse, different histological grades. There was negative correlation between the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and survival time. Conclusion The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 correlated with invasion, metastasis and prognosis of epithelial ovarian carcinomas.
