On Foreign Language Anxiety of College Students

This paper reports on a survey conducted to a subject sample of 119 college students using questionnaires based on Horwitz's Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale.The results indicate that considerable level of foreign language anxiety is felt by a large number of the subjects.Female students have higher level of foreign language anxiety than male students,but there is no significant difference between them.There is significantly negative correlation between anxiety and foreign language achievements and the higher anxiety level is,the greater is its negative influence on foreign language study.Also,the implication of these findings is discussed and anxiety-reduction measures are formulated.
