Abstract

Objective To investigate the change of platelet parameters and its clinical significance in marrow and non-marrow thrombocytopenia (TP) patients. Methods Platelet count (PLT),mean platelet volume (MPV),plateletcrit (PCT) and platelet distribution width (PDW) of 53 marrow TP patients (group A),25 non-marrow TP patients (group B) and 100 healthy individuals (the control group) were respectively determined by KX-21 blood cell analyzer, and then the changes of PLT,MPV,PCT and PDW were analyzed in the three groups. Results Compared with the control group,PLT and PCT of group A are lower (t values were 32.787 and 35.858,respectively and the P values were both 0.000).MPV and PDW showed no statistically significant difference between the control group and group A,with t values (P values)=1.080 (0.282) and 0.664 (0.508),respectively.Compared with the control group,PLT and PCT of group B are lower (t values were 24.296 and 5.820,respectively,and P values were both 0.000).MPV and PDW of group B were higher than that of the control group, with t values of 9.842 and 22.666,respectively and P values both of 0.000.MPV and PCT of the group A were lower than that of group B,with t values of 6.297 and 2.217,respectively and P values of 0.000 and 0.030,respectively.Conclusion For thrombocytopenia patients,if the MPV is normal, thrombocytopenia might be caused by bone marrow diseases;if MPV is higher than the normal value, thrombocytopenia might be caused by non-marrow diseases.
