Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effects of olmesartan medoxomil tablets on morning blood pressure,24 h ambulatory blood pressure and blood pressure 6h before dosing in patients with mild to moderate hypertension. Methods:A randomized,double-blind,double-mimic controlled trial was performed.Forty-eight patients were randomly assigned into treatment group(olmesartan)or control group(olmetec). The 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was investigated at the end of the trial. Results:The morning systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly reduced by 8 ±12,11±8mm Hg in treatment group and 9 ±11,11±8mm Hg in control groups respectively, there were no significant differences in reduction between 2 groups. The morning blood pressure target reached in 75.0% and 83.3% patients in treatment and control groups respectively. The two drugs had significantly reduced mean 24 h systolic/diastolic blood pressure and mean systolic/diastolic blood pressure 6h before dosing without significant differences. Conclusion:Administration of olmesartan medoxomil tablets once daily can significantly reduce morning blood pressure,24 h blood pressure and blood pressure 6h before dosing in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. The efficacy was comparable to olmetec.
