Abstract

Xinxiangyou 96, derived from the fine quality aromatic CMS line Xinxiang A and the fine quality restorer line R96, is a new mediummaturing quasiaromatic hybrid rice combination for late cropping season. It has the characteristics of fine grain quality, high yield, fertilizer and cold tolerance, lodging resistance, suitable maturity and wide adaptability. It was registered and released in Hubei Province in February 2002. The total area under this hybrid from 1998 to 2002 amounted to more than 6 000 hm2 in Jingzhou, Hubei. Its breeding procedure, characteristics, cultivation and hybrid seed production techniques were introduced in the paper.
