Causes of intravenous catheter-related infections after liver transplantation and prevention countermeasures

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the causes of jugular vein catheter-related infections after liver transplantation and prevention countermeasures and analyze the causes for catheter-related infections,jugular vein catheter indwelling time,blood vessels-related infections,and jugular vein catheter-related infections so as to provide guidance for clinical diagnosis.METHODS A total of 28 patients,who underwent the jugular vein intubation after DCD donor liver transplantation from Jul 2006 to Jan 2012,were enrolled in the study,then all the patients underwent the jugular venous intubation after the DCD liver transplantation,the correlation between the catheterrelated infections and the jugular vein catheter indwelling time and the causes of jugular vein catheter-related infections were analyzed,and the prevention countermeasures were formulated according to the causes.RESULTS Of the 28 patients who underwent the liver transplantation,the mean catheter indwelling time was 22 days,the infections occurred in 2 cases,including 1 case of local infection and 1 case of bloodstream infection,with the infection rate of 7.14%;the infection rate of the patients with the catheter indwelling time varying between 1 and 2 days was 0,the patients with the catheter indwelling time varying between 12 and 24 days 5.88%,the patients with the catheter indwelling time more than 24 days 16.67%.Totally 3 strains of pathogens have been isolated from the blood culture and catheter tip culture.The main causes of the jugular vein catheter-related infections included the selection of catheter material,catheter indwelling time,and awareness of aseptic operations of medical staff.CONCLUSIONThe incidence of jugular vein catheter-related infections is high;it is necessary to strengthen the awareness of aseptic operations of the medical staff,choose appropriate catheter,and focus on the nursing of catheter so as to effectively prevent the catheter-related infections.
