Abstract

Objectives To discuss the preoperative examinations and precautions for age-related cataract patients who underwent small incision extracapsular cataract extraction and IOL implantation. Methods 86 eyes were performed small incision cataract surgery and intraocular lens with local anesthesia. Results The visual acuity of 60 eyes were 0.8 or above; 20 eyes were 0.4-0.6; 6 eyes were below 0.3, which was due to age-related macular degeneration. During the operation, the blood pressure raised in 1 case, residual cortex occurred in 4 cases, posterior capsular rupture occurred in 7 eyes. After operation, corneal edema were found in all cases more or less, iridocyclitis occurred in 3 cases, posterior capsule opacification occurred in 3 cases, ptosis occurred in 1 case. Conclusions Small incision extracapsular cataract extraction and IOL implantation was an effective way to treat cataract, which was easy to use and fit to the basic hospital.
