Abstract

Objective To study the effects of high iodine on secretion of interleukin-1α (IL-1α ) and interleukin-6 (IL- 6) by human thyrocytes in primary culture and the relation between iodine and autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD). Meth- ods Thyrocytes were cultured for 48 hours in different iodine concentration medium. The contents of IL-1α, IL-6 in super- nate were determined by ELISA. Results The results showed that there were high contents of IL-1 α in supernate when the iodine concentrations were 0.15μ g/ml and 0.75 μg/ml, ad well as those of IL-6 when foe iodine concentration were 0.75μg/ml and 3.75μ g/ml. (compared with the empty control group. P0.01). Conclusions High iodine can stimulate the thyrocytes to secrete excessive IL-1 α and IL-6, and high iodine plays a very important role in process of AITD onset. IL- 1α and IL-6 may he the indexes to judgement of thyroid injury.
