Combination of "Shenfu Decoction" and routine treatment for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease:a report of 36 cases

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Shenfu Decoction combined with routine treatment in treating acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AE-COPD).Methods Seventy-two mechanically ventilated patients with AE-COPD were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,36 in each group.The two groups were treated by anti-inflammatory,expectorant,mechanical ventilation and other routine treatment,and treatment group was additional treated by nasogastric Shenfu Decoction,with the course of 12 days.The clinical efficacy was observed.Results After treatment,there was significant difference in intubation time and cases of secondary intubation between the two groups(P0.05);there was significant difference in PaCO2 and PaO2 in treatment group between before and after treatment(P0.05);significant difference was found in PaO2 between the two groups after treatment(P0.05).Conclusion Shenfu Decoction can significantly improve ventilation function,shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation and improve the prognosis in patients with AE-COPD.
