Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer(EMMPRIN/CD147)and matrix metalloproteinases-2(MMP-2) in human laryngeal carcinoma, and to study their relationship with the invasion, metastasis and prognosis. Methods: The expression of CD147 and MMP-2 was detected using immunohistochemical staining in 48 specimens from laryngeal carcinoma,10 specimens from laryngeal papilloma and 15 specimens from laryngitis, and the results were compared to clinical pathological features and prognosis. Results: The positive rates of CD147 and MMP-2 were significantly higher in laryngeal carcinoma than in laryngitis tissue(87.5%、75.0% vs 26.7%、6.7%).The intensive expression of CD147 and MMP-2 were correlated with the clinical stage and the situation of lymph nodes matastasis. The coexpression rate of CD147 and MMP-2 in laryngeal carcinoma was 68.8%.Positive correlation was found between the CD147 and MMP-2(r=0.736,P﹤0.001).Univariable survival analysis indicated that overall survival rate was lower in patients with intensive positive expression of CD147 and MMP-2 than in patients with negative expression. Conclusion: CD147 and MMP-2 may play a role in invasion and metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma.Increased MMP-2 might be induced by CD147 expressed in laryngeal tumor cells. They may be prognostic factors of laryngeal carcinoma.
