Critical Analysis of the Transitivity Theory and the News Texts

Crihcal linguistics holds that various levels and structures of texts may have idoological meaning. TakingHalliday's Systematic Functional Crammar—Transitivity as a tool, the author analyses the ideological meaning contained in the news texts and points out that the ideological meaning is often reflected in the process of the speaker's choice of text transitive system, and that this process will be influenced and restricted by the speaker's position, point of view, communica-tive intention and social context.
