Transitivity Theory and Critical Analysis of the English News Tests

Abstract

Critical linguistics holds that various levels and structures of tests may have ideological meaning. Taking Halliday's Systematic Functional Grammar - Transitivity as a tool, the author analyses the ideological meaning contained in the speaker's choice of text transitive system, and that this process will be influenced and restricted by the speaker's position, point of view, communicative intention and social context.
