Abstract

Objective To study the effects of estradiol on transforming growth factor β1(TGF-β1) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) in liver fibrotic rats, and then to investigate the suppressive effects of estradiol on liver fibrosis and prospect of clinic application. Methods Liver fibrosis was induced in rats by CCL4 administration, and was treated with estradiol. The expression of TGF-β1 and TIMP-1 were studied at the end of the experiment. Results Estradiol treatment suppress hepatic collagen content;decreased TGF-β1,TIMP-1(P0.05).Conclusions Estradiol probably suppresses liver fibrotic rats by lowering TGF-β1 which suppresses collagen synthesis and TIMP-1 which enhances collagen decomposition.Estradiol can be used as a kind of drug in prevention and treatment of liver fibrosis.
