The Amendment of Han Yu's Essays and the Grammar Theories of Zhu Xi

This paper, based on the collation of Han Yu's classic works and Zhu Xi's study on grammar, including his intensive investigation on word, vocabulary, sentence and discourse, discovers that Han Yu placed great stress on the coherence and conciseness of a piece of writing, meanwhile we point out that it is improper for Han Yuan's work han ji ju zheng sought to differentiate itself from the conventional writing style, warning the current writers not to follow the bad example by adopting a queer writing style, setting a good example by establishing a plain and smooth writing style for the following generations of writers.
