A comparative study of the rapid tranquilization strategy of olanzapine and haloperidol injection for acute manic episode

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of the rapid tranquilization strategy of olanzapine and haloperidol injection in the treatment of acute manic episode. MethodsA total of 52 patients with acute manic episode were randomly divided into two groups treated with olanzapine(n=26) or haloperidol injection(n=26) respectively. All the patients were evaluated with the Positive and Negative Scale(PANSS) and the Treatment Emergent Symptoms Scale(TESS) before treatment and on 12h, 72h, 1st and 2nd weekend after treatment.ResultsSubscore of the agitation of PANSS in both groups significatly decreased after treatment.Both groups took into effects quickly in agitated symptoms,their efficacy were similiar,while the score of TESS in olanzapine group was significantly higher than that in haloperidol injection group.Conclusion It is suggested that the rapid tranquilization strategy of olanzapine and haloperidol injection have both good efficacy in the treatment of acute manic episode ,and the strategy of olanzapine has better safety.
