Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy and safety of the rapid tranquilization strategy of olanzapine in the treatment of acute schizophrenic patients.METHODS 32 patients were selected in the study. The clinical responses and side effects were evaluated before and after 12 ,72 hours and 1,2,4 weeks of olanzapine administiation using PANSS-EC(excited component) score and CGI and TESS.RESULTS 29 patients out of 32 completed, the climical study and got good responses. The rate of response is 91%.Compared with that before treatment, the CGI-SI score become less significant at the 12 hours after treatment (t=1.98,P0.05).And the PANSS-EC score become less significantly at the 72 hours after treatment(t=2.72,P0.01).Furthermore,as the course of treatment going on,the clinical efficacy became more significant. Most of the side effects appeared within 72 hours after the treatment. The total incidence of side effects was 39%,including over-sedation (22%)、hypotension (16%)、akathisia(3%) and nausea(3%).The TESS score became lower as the course of treatment going on. Weight-gaining was the major side effect at the end of treatment with the rate 24%.CONCLUSION The rapid tranquilization strategy of olanzapine is effective and safe in the treatment for acute schizophrenic patient. And it is valuable to be introduced clinically.
