Abstract

Objective To investigate the autologous corneal limbal stem call transplant ation combined with mitomycin C efficacy of the treatment of the pterygium. Methods A 2mg/ml mitomycin C(MMC)cotton patch was placed in operation area between the bulbar conjunctiva and the sclera for 2~3 minutes after excision of the pterygium in 58 cases of patients with pterygium. The superior limbal stem cells and their adjacent bulbar conjunctiva as graft transplantation were repaired the above wound. Results No pterygium recurrence,no serious complications were found in the follow-up period. Conclusion conneal limbal stem cell transplantation combined with mitomycin C for the treatment of the pterygium could significantly reduce the recurrence rate of the pterygium.
