Phacoemulsification in patients with cataract and secondary angle closure glaucoma.

Objective To evaluate the effect of phacoemulsification in patients with cataract and secondary angle closure glaucoma caused by lens abnormality.Methods 45 eyes with secondary angle-closure glaucoma and cataract underwent phacoemulsification with fodable posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation were studied retrospectively,including 35 eyes with secondary acute angle-closure glaucoma,10 eyes with secondary chronic angle-closure glaucoma.Results After follow-up 3 months to 3 years,no severe complication was observed in these patients.The corrected visual acuity was improved in 36 eyes(80.00%) after the operation.The mean intraocular pressures and the number of antiglaucoma medications reduced respectively.Some part of the closed chamber angle reopened.Conclusion Phacoemulsification with fodable posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation is a good alternative in treatment of secondary angle-closure glaucoma with cataract.
