Abstract
The turn from the 19th to the 20th century and the phase of the pre and post neo literature saw the crucial moment when Chinese art evolved from classical to modern form. As western poetics and literature expanded its impact and Chinese lyric literature retreated from its central position, the writing of poetry of and theoretical criticism took new form in writing and artistic pursuit. The narrative poetry in the vernacular and its form of writing, which appeared in the pre and post May 4th Movement, oriented the development of Chinese poetry towards the establishment of modern style and the reshaping of the critic system.
