Function of the midgastric transverse band in gastric emptying of FD.

Objective To evaluate the function of MTB in gastric emptying of FD.Method The stomach was de-vided into the proximal and distal parts through the midgastric transverse band (MTB).The gastric emptying and intragastric distribution were investigated in 36 patients by SPECT tehnique.Results 52.8% patients had delayed gastric emptying in the proximal, distal stomach and region of the MTB. The width and area of MTB could decrease with improvement of the gastric emptying in FD patients. Cisapride can shorten the emptying time of some patients, especially in the proximal stomach . Conclusions Distrudance of gastric emptying may relate to that of the proximal and distal stomach in FD patients. MTB may play an important role in transfer,distribution and emptying of food in the stomach. Regulating machanism of the MTB may be as a sluice gate.
