Observations on the Efficacy of Low Frequency Electroacupuncture in Treating Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy low frequency electroacupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.Methods One hundred and five patients were randomly allocated to a conventional acupuncture group of 36 cases,5 Hz electroacupuncture group of 35 cases and 60 Hz electroacupuncture group of 34 cases.The therapeutic effects were evaluated after ten treatments.Results The total efficacy rate was 100.00% in the 5 Hz electroacupuncture group,88.24% in the 60 Hz electroacupuncture group and 83.33% in the conventional acupuncture group.The total efficacy rate was significantly higher in 5 Hz electroacupuncture group than in the 60 Hz electroacupuncture group and in the conventional acupuncture group(P0.05,P0.01).There was also a statistically significant differences in the total efficacy rate between the 60 Hz electroacupuncture group and the conventional acupuncture group(P0.05).Conclusion Five Hz low frequency electroacupuncture can increase the efficacy rate against lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.
