Expression of β1 integrin and its association with biological behavior in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Objective To determine the expression of β1 integrin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma,and explore their association with clinical biological behavior to provide the theoretical basis for gene therapy and prognosis judgement in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.Methods The expression of β1 integrin was detected by immunohistochemical method in 10 cases of normal esophageal mucosa and 60 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.Results The positive expression rate of β1 integrin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(61.67%)was lower than that in normal mucosa epithelium(90.00%),but there was no significant difference between them(P0.05).The positive expression rate of β1 integrin in the group invaded to the whole wall(20.83%) was lower than that in the group invaded to muscularis(50.00%,P0.05),and its positive rate in the group with lymph node metastasis(43.48%) was much lower than that in the group without lymph node metastasis(72.97%,P0.05).Conclusion The lower expression of β1 integrin may be one of reasons for invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
