Abstract
This paper discusses the multimedia multicast application problem with allowable delay and high packet loss rate. It proposes a new reliable multicast protocol based on relay nodes concept (RMPRM). The RMPRM protocol focusing on allowable delay provides Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia. Relay nodes are placed along the multicast tree. Data recovery is done between relay nodes. We propose the methods that enable protocol relays to request retransmission immediately and reduce the number of duplicate packets. We compare the RMPRM with non-reliable multicast protocols. Simulation results show that the RMPRM has high delivery ratio and low end-to-end delay for packet transmission. The results show that the RMPRM is an available approach to multimedia multicast.
