Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy of simvastatin for patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) in early stage. Methods 114 patients with ACS were sorted at random as follows: 59 patients in the simvastatin-treatment group and 55 patients in the control group as comparison. All patients were given conventional therapy. In addition, the simvastatin-treatment group was given 20 mg simvastatin per night and the control group was given placebo instead.Blood lipid was examined after 3 and 6 months' course of treatment. The cardiovascular events were recorded after 6 months' treatment. Results The total plasma cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein were conspicuously decreased(P0.01) and the high density lipoprotein was heightened(P0.05) after 3 and 6 months' course of treatment. The cardiovascular events in simvastatin group were less than control group(P0.05).Conclusion Simvastatin can reduce blood lipid level and decline the incidence of cardiovascular events for ACS patients.Considering its affirmative results, safety and good tolerance to the body,we espouse its use clinically.
