Abstract

Objective To study the opportunity of the tracheotomy for the patients with inhalation injury, and the management of the complications. Methods Ninety - six patients with inhalation injury underwent tracheotomy and their complete information was investigated retrospectively. Results Ninety - one of the 96 tracheotomy patients were saved.Complications occurred in 18 patients (18.75%).The patients receiving the operation less than 6 hours after burn(14.3%) had less complications than the others, and the rates of complication were 25.0%,17.3%and 15.0%,with decreasing order of severity. Conclusions Burn in the head and neck region accompanied by inhalation injury is the indication to early tracheotomy.
