Abstract

Aim: To study the expression and its biological significance of PTEN and P53 proteins in non-small cell lung carcinoma(NSCLC) tissue. Methods: The expression of PTEN and P53 proteins was detected in 75 cases of NSCLC tissue (50 cases of squamous carcinoma,25 cases of adenocarcinoma; 18,34,23 cases in high, moderate, poor differentiation grade groups, respectively; 50 cases at clinical stage Ⅰ~Ⅱ,25 cases at clinical stage Ⅲ~Ⅳ;45 cases with lymph node metastasis and 30 cases without lymph node metastasis)and 20 cases of normal lung tissue using immunohistochemistry. Results: The positive rate of PTEN and P53 was 48% and 53.3%,respectively,in lung carcinoma tissue, which was 95% and 0%,respectively in normal lung tissue. There was no significant difference in the expression of PTEN and P53 between adenocarcinoma and squamous carcinoma tissue(P0.05).The positive rate of PTEN in high and moderate differentiation grade groups was higher than that in poor differentiation group(P 0.05). The positive rate of P53 showed no difference among different differentiation grade groups(P0.05). The positive rate of PTEN at clinical stage Ⅰ~Ⅱ and group without lymph node metastasis was higher than that at stage Ⅲ~Ⅳ and lymph node metastasis group, respectively( P0.05). The positive rate of P53 at clinical stage Ⅰ~Ⅱ and group without lymph node metastasis was lower than that at clinical stage Ⅲ~Ⅳ and lymph node metastasis group(P0.05). There was negative correlation between the expression of PTEN and P53 in lung carcinoma tissue(rs=-0.343,P0.05). Conclusion: PTEN and P53 can be used as the evaluating norm for the prognosis of lung carcinoma. They may suppress each other in the expression of lung carcinoma tissue.
