Abstract
Chiral N-maleoyl-L-alanine(AMI) and styrene(St) were copolymerized in the oil-water microemulsion by using potassium persulfate(KPS) as initiator, sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) as anionic emulsifier, and pentanol as consurfactant. The resulting polymers are optically active. The monomer reactivity ratios(r_1,r_2),Alfrey-Price Q,and e values are calculated, which are r_1=0.05,r_2=0.10,Q_1=1.59,and e_1=1.50,respectively.The effects of initiator concentration, molar fraction of monomer in feed and reaction temperature on the polymerization rate(R_p) have been investigated. The overall energy of activation(E_a) is 82.86 kJ/mol.
