Abstract

The styrene/butyl acrylate(St/BA) microemulsion copolymerization has been carried out with sodium dodecyl sulfate and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate as emulsifier, benzoyl peroxide as initiator. The effects of initiator concentration(), total monomer concentration(),total emulsifier content(C_E) and copolymerization temperature(T) on maximal polymerization rate(R_(max)) and copolymer viscosity-average molecular weight(_η) have been investigated, and the reactivity ratioes of styrene and butyl acrylate determined. The resuls are followed as: R_(max) ∝~(0.90)~(1.49)C~~(0.73)__E exp(-6116/T), _η ∝~(-1.60)~(-1.22)C~~(-1.43)__E exp(3496/T); r__(St)=(0.55), r__(BA)=(0.23).
