On the Development of Literary Tradition of Feng Ya in Wang Yu-chen's Fu

Wang Yu-chen was one of the few writers in the early Song Dynasty who revealed reality and expressed their resentfulness by means of Fu. He advocated the allegorical function and smooth language style of Fu, and placed great emphasis on artistic innovation. His works either criticize the government, or express his concern for the people's suffering or his feelings of the loyal anger, or demonstrate his deep and sincere entry to realistic society. Wang Yu-chen introduced the techniques of ancient Chinese prose into Fu, which in turn produces smooth, natural, plain and refreshing artistic effects. His Fu is further characterized by his combination of argumentativeness and strong emotions that Fu was originally used to express. In addition, he innovated, to some extent, the Fu genre.
