Effect of Fiveleaf Gynostemma Herb on hyperlipoidemia and hemorheological changes in rabbits

Objective To study effect of Fiveleaf Gynostemma Herb on hyperlipoidemia and hemorheological changes in rabbits.Methods Forty rabbits were randomly divided as groups A(fed with high fat food plus 5 g/kg Fiveleaf Gynostemma Herb),B(high fat food plus 5 mg/kg simvastatin),C(high fat food),E(standard feedstuff).TG,TC,LDL-C,HDL-C,endothelin-1(ET-1)and hemorheological indexes(blood viscosity,plasma viscosity,erythrocyte aggregation)were checked before experiment and at 9th week after experiment.Ultramicrostructure of endothelial cells was observed.Results TG,TC and LDL-C of groups A,B and C increased gradually.TG,TC,LDL-C of groups A and B were lower than those of group C(P0.05-0.01).TG,HDL-C,LDL-C of group A were higher than those of group B(P0.05-0.01).TC of group B was higher than that of group A(P0.05).ET-1 of groups A,B and C increased gradually(P0.01),that of groups A and B lower than group C(P0.01).Blood viscosity,blood viscosity and erythrocyte aggregation were higher than those before experiment(P0.05-0.01),those of groups A,B higher than group C(P0.05).As compared with group C,endothelial cell injury in groups A and B was lighter,with few lipid droplet vacuoles in cytoplasm,various cell organs and elastic membrane.Conclusion Fiveleaf Gynostemma Herb has interference effect on hyperlipoidemia and hemorheological changes in rabbits fed with high fat food.
