Abstract
Different nations present different cultures. Chinese learners of English are required to have not only a profound linguistic knowledge but also an understanding of cultures of English speaking nations. This paper analyses some barriers to understanding the word meaning caused by cultural differences in the hope that the learners would use English words more appropriately and accurately in intercultural communication.
