Anterograde Amnesia of Propofol and Midazolam in Different Sedation Depth

Abstract

Objective To evaluate anterograde amnesia of propofol and midazolam by bispectral index (BIS) in different sedation depth.Methods 31 screened post-operation-patients without craniocerebral operation were investigated.All of the patients were randomly divided into two groups,propofol(0.5-1.5mg/kg/hr) group (n=17),midazolam(0.04-0.1.5mg/kg/hr)group (n=14).The sedative patients had been ordered to see the number cards in the sequence of the BIS90,85-75,74-65,65.The patients remembered the number cards when they recovered consciousness (BIS90)from sedation.The rate of misremember number cards were recorded in every BIS period.Results Compared with the rate of patients′ conscious status,the rate of misremember number cards was significant difference in propofol groups when the BIS of patients were between 65 and 75(P=0.008,0.005).Otherwise,the rate of misremember in midazolam group was significant difference in consciousness and 75BIS85 sedative status(P=0.038,0.004,0.000).Conclusion Both of propofol and midazolam were anterograde amnesia effects,and propofol presented the effects in deeper sedation than midazolam.
