Abstract

Objective To compare the analgesic and adverse effects of butorphanol, fentanyl and butorphanol combined with fentanyl for postoperative patient-controlled intravenous analgesia(PCIA).Methods Ninty ASA class Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients were randomly divided into three groups with 30 cases each. The patients in group B received 0.01% butorphanol with loading dose 1 mg,in group F 0.0015% fentanyl with loading dose 0.05 mg,and in group BF 0.005% butophanol+0.001% fentanyl with loading dose 1mg butophanol for PCIA.The PCA model for all groups was set with background infusion 2 ml/h,bolus of 1 ml with lock time 10 min. Results Adequate analgesia and sufficient sedation were achieved in all three groups. There were no significant differences between groups F and group BF in visual analogue pain scores, which were lower than those in group B at 4,8,and 12 h(P0.01).PCA was requested more often in the first 4 h for group F,and in 4 to 8 h for group B.The incidence of nausea/vomiting in group B and group BF was lower than that in group F,and that of swirl in group F and group BF was lower than that in group B.Conclusion Our results suggest that butorphanol combined with fentanyl is good mixture for PCIA.
