Abstract
Objective To analyze the correlation of advanced glycation end products(AGEs) with bone metabolism and density in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) patients. Methods Thirty-two T2MD patients with osteoporosis(group A),36 with bone loss(group B),31 with normal bone mass(group C),30 healthy subjects(group D) were enrolled in this study.Body mass index(BMI),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),fasting blood glucose(FBG),serum alkaline phosphatase(ALP),bone gla protein(BGP),parathyroid hormone(PTH),blood calcium(Ca),blood phosphorus(P),urine carboxyl-terminal peptide(CTX) were detected in 4 groups; The bone density of lumbar spine(L2~4),femur neck, trigone, greater trochanter were measured to analyze the correlation of AGEs with bone metabolic markers and density in groups A and B.Results No significant differences were noted in age,sex composition, and ALP level between 4 groups(P0.05),but there were in BMI,FBG,HbA1c,BGP,urine CTX,PTH,Ca,P,AGEs(P0.01).Serum AGEs level of groups D,C,B,A increased in turn, the difference was significant(P0.05).In groups A,B,AGEs was not correlated with ALP,but negatively with BGP and the bone density L2~4,femur neck, trigone, greater trochanter(P0.05),positively with HbA1c,CTX,PTH,Ca,P(P0.05).Conclusion AGEs level increases significantly in T2DM patients with osteoporosis, bone loss.AGEs,correlated with T2DM combined with osteoporosis and bone loss, can influence the biochemical markers of bone metabolism, thus to induce osteoporosis, bone loss in T2DM patients.
