Abstract
This paper is concerned with the modification of the natural bentonite using octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide( OTAB) and subsequent characterization of samples using X ray diffraction and introduces the effects of the organic modified bentonite dosage,p H,adsorption time and temperature on the removal rate of COD found in oily wastewater. The results suggest that the successful intercalation of OTAB into the layers of bentonite results in a larger layer spacing and organic modified bentonite affords a higher COD removal rate up to 86. 8%,as conditioned by organic modified bentonite dosage of 9 g / L,adsorption time of 45 min,and p H of 6. 0,and 30 ℃. This research may provide a reference for an improved method for modifying bentonite.
