Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of survivin and the clinicopathologic parameters in colorectal cancer and evaluate its significance in predicating the prognosis. Methods The expression of survivin in 58 human colorectal cancer tissues and the corresponding normal colorectal tissues was detected by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). And the correlation between expression of survivin and the clinicopathological features was retrospectively analyzed. Results The positive rate of srvivin expression in 58 human colorectal cancer tissues was 67.2%. However, no expression of survivin gene was detected in the corresponding normal colorectal tissues. There was no significant correlation between survivin expression and age, sex , tumor size, tumor location and differentiation grade(P0.05), but had significant relationship with Dukes stage and lymphnode metastases(P0.05). Conclusion Survivin had high positive expression rate in colorectal cancer tissue. It suggested that survivin gene may play an important role in the occurrence, progression and prognosis of colorectal cancer.
