Clinical observation of S-1 combined with radiotherapy in treatment of brain metastases

Abstract

Objective To observe the short-term effect and safety of S-1 combined with whole brain radiotherapy(WBRT) in the treatment of patients with brain metastases.Methods Fifty patients with brain metastases received conventional WBRT which was 30 Gy/10 F and S-1 80 mg/m2,bid.MRI evaluated at 3 months after radiation.Results The total effective rate(CR+PR) was 80% and l-year survival rate was 42%.The main toxicities were myelosuppressive and gastrointestinal toxicities and Most were grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ.Conclusion S-1 combined with radiotherapy shows good efficacy and tolerance for patients with brain metastases.And the quality of life in patients are apparently improved by this regimen.
