Radiotherapy for 54 Patients with Brain Metastases

Objective To study the efficacy of radiotherapy on the brain metastases.Methods 54 patients with brain metastases from September,1996 to September,2000 were treated with radiotherapy, when the dose of whole-brain radiotherapy got up to 30Gy,then supplemented 20～24Gy or 16～18Gy.Results The 8 patients without supplementary irradiation all died in one year. The one-year survival rate and two-year survival rate of the 46 patients with supplementary irradiation were 58.7% and 21.7% ,respectively. The total response of the 54 patients was 77.5% .Conclusion Radiotherapy is a safe and effectual palliative treatment to brain metastases,it can improve symptoms and prolong survival time.
