Abstract
[Objective] To study the expression of survivin and its relationship with expression of caspase-3, P53 in laryngeal carcinomas. [Method] Immunohistochemical assay was used to detect the expression of Survivin,caspase-3 and P53 proteins in 46 cases of laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas and 16 normal laryngeal epithelium tissues. [Results] Survivin protein was detected in 33 of 46(71.7%) laryngeal cancerous tissues, but no expression of Survivin was detectable in corresponding normal epithelium tissues. The expression of Survivin was not related to the clinic stage of tumor, differentiation and lymph node metastasis. The caspase-3 protein expression was detected in all normal laryngeal epithelium, but only 26.1% positive expression in laryngeal carcinoma. P53 protein was detected in 30 of 46(65.1%) laryngeal cancerous tissues, but no expression of P53 was detectable in corresponding normal epithelium tissues. There was negative significant correlation between the expression of Survivin and caspase-3, but positive significant correlation between the expression of Survivin and P53. [Conclusion] The expression of Survivin in laryngeal cancerous tissues is up-regulated, indicating this gene may play an important role in the process of carcinogenesis of laryngeal carcinoma. The changes in the level of Survivin, caspase-3 and P53 may play important roles in the pathogenesis of laryngeal carcinoma.
