Abstract
Investigations on rhizome structure factors of newly planting Phyllostachys iridenscens stands showed that length and diameter of rhizome reflected speed and quality of the stand. Rhizome length was of linear increase after 2 years of plantation, rhizome diameter and unit area lateral buds increased along years. Rhizome length and diameter, lateral bud were 579.7 cm/m2、1.75 cm、79 buds/m2 by the end fourth year, and the underground structure then became closed forest. The rhizome of young and adult stand distributed in the upper 20 cm of soil. Mother bamboo D.B.H had significant effect on the future rhizome length and diameter. Mother bamboo with 2.5-3cm D.B.H was recommended for plantation.
