Comparison of sevoflurane and ketamine in anesthesia induction during pediatric tonsillectomy

Objective To compare the effect of sevoflurane and ketamine in anesthesia induction during pediatric tonsillectomy.Methods 60 cases with pediatric tonsillectomy in our hospital from April to December in 2011 were randomly divided into 2 groups:sevoflurane group(sevoflurane anesthesia)and ketamine group(ketamine anesthesia).The anesthetic effects and complications of the two groups were compared.Results All the operations were completed smoothly with satisfied anesthetic effects.Compared with ketamine group,the surgical time,recovery time,extubation time in sevoflurane group were shorter significantly(P0.05),and the rates of bronchial convulsion and SpO2 instability decreased more significantly(P0.01).Conclusion Sevoflurane inhalation induction has satisfactory effects on pediatric tonsillectomy under general anesthesia,it can be combined with other drugs in clinical use to reduce the adverse reactions and obtain better anesthetic effects.
