Abstract
It is Halliday who first put forward grammatical metaphor.Grammatical metaphor refers to a langue phenomenon that a given meaning is realized by one grammatical expression replacing another one,so Halliday(1994)defined grammatical metaphor asthe same signified and the different signifiers.In the system of grammatical metaphor,there are ideational metaphor,interpersonal metaphor as well as textual metaphor.In order to elaborate its value,this paper,based on mental scanning process,prototype theory and iconicity,intends to study the grammatical metaphor,in hope of revealing its cognitive motivations.
