Investigation on condom use status among female sex workers in entertainment establishments in Hubei province

Objective To determine the status of knowledge,attitude,behavior and practice of AIDS and condom use among female sex workers(FSWs) who were based on the entertainment establishments(EEs) in Hubei Province.To provide information for setting down strategies for prevention and control on this kind of people and to provide evidence for evaluating the effect of 100% Condom Use Program(100%CUP).Methods 6?052 FSWs,came from each program district located in Hubei province,everyone was interviewed at their work places using the face to face interviewing method with structured questionnaire,5?963 shares of their answered questionnaire were efficient.The valid rate was 98.5%.Results Only 33.7% of the interviewed FSWs had completed knowledge of AIDS;rate of condom use in commercial xex was low for various factors,68.5% FSWs admitted using condoms in latest commercial sex;only 32.3% persisting used it in every commercial sex during the past month;furthermore,there existed statistically significant difference between client and fixed partner(P0.001);FSWs had varied ways to acquire condoms.Conclusion Some pertinent strategies and measures should be used to carry out health education campaign and intervention on behavior change among FSWs for AIDS prevention and control.
