Analysis on results of behavior surveillance and serum examination among female sex workers in entertainment establishments

Objective: To monitor the current situation and trend of behavior changes related to AIDS among female sex workers(FSWs) in entertainment establishments after finishing of complementing of 100% condom use program(100%CUP),to provide information and basis for the formulation of HIV/AIDS intervention strategies and assessment of its effects.Methods: Information of the Knowledge,Attitude and Behavior among FSWs in entertainment establishments were collected by qualitative and quantitative analysis;samples were tested for HIV and syphilis;a repeated cross-investigation was carried out in the years of 2004 and 2005.Results: The reported condom use rates among FSWs who had sex with clients at last were 91.8% in 2004 and 97.6% in 2005 respectively.The levels of understanding about STD/AIDS knowledge and cognition on behavior increased rapidly.The rates of syphilis prevalence were 3.0% in 2004 and 1.0% in 2005 respectively.Conclusion: The 100%CUP has achieved remarkable effect in the pilot site;it is necessary to conduct the campaign of health education and behavior intervention among FSWs in entertainment establishments after finishing the pilot program.
