Drug Resistance and Clinical Characteristics of Extended Spectrum β-Lactamases Producing Bacteria in Children with Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

Objective To explore drug resistance and clinical characteristics of extended spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs) producing bacteria in children with lower respiratory tract infections.Methods Thirty-four strains of ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were isolated from hospitalized patients with lower respiratory tract infections from Jul. 2004 to Dec.2005.The drug resistance and clinical characteristics were analyzed.Results Anti-microbial sensitivity test showed that ESBLs-producing strains had no drug resistance to imipenem and meropenem,and the drug- resistance rates of ESBLs-producing strains against piperacillin,cefazolin,ceftriaxone,cefotaxime were 100%.Conclusions ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are seriously multiple drug resistant and cross drug resistant,so more attention shall be paid to monitoring the drug-resistant in ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae at our hospital, and the antibiotics shall be rationally administrated according to drug sensitivity.
