Abstract

Objective To explore drug resistance and clinical characteristics of extended spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs)producing bacteria in children with lower respiratory tract infections. Methods 34 strains of ESBLs-producing escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae were isolated from hospitalized patients with lower respiratory tract infections from Dec.2001 to Jul.2006.The drug resistance and clinical characteristics were analyzed. Results Antimicrobial sensitivity test showed that ESBLs-producing strained no drug resistance to imipenem and meropenem, and the drug-resistance rates of ESBLs-producing strains against piperacillin, cefamlin, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime were 100%.Conclusion ESBLS producing escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae are seriously multipie drug resistant and cross drug resistant. So more attention shall be paid to monitoring the drug-resistant in ESBLs-producing escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae at our hospital.and the antibiotics shall be rationally administrated according to drug sensitivity.
