Abstract
Objective To evaluate the safety and efficiency of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy (MPCNL) in treating complex renal calculi. Methods The data of 140 patients,who underwent MPCNL for complex renal calculi from Jan. 2005 to Jun. 2007,were investigated retrospectively. Results One-stage MPCNL was successfully performed in all the cases,including single tract in 118 and multiple tracts in 22,one section procedure in 106 and two sections or more in 34. The stone-free rate was 87.1%. The average operation time was 82 minutes,the estimated blood loss volume was 60 mL and the postoperative average hospitalization time was 5 days. No severe complication was observed. Conclusion MPCNL has the advantages of minimal invasion,safety and good effect,postoperative early resumption and shorter hospital stay,which may provide an effective modality for treatment of complex renal calculi and avoid open surgery in most of patients.
