Abstract
Many experimental results have showed that the progress of aging is closely related to the mitochondrial dysfunction and excessive free radicals in mitochondria are considered an important factor inducing senescence. In the aging process, the free radicals produce oxidative damage to mtDNA which leads to mtDNA mutations, and the accumulation of the mtDNA mutations results in the disorder of a variety of physiological malfunctions within the body and accelerate the aging process. This article has reviewed the research progress of mitochondria and aging in recent years.
